by Reel Big Fish (2002)
Back in 2003 I attended a concert in Anaheim, California, at a club called Chain Reaction. I don’t really even remember who we were there to see, but I went with some friends from work, and that night I heard the song “Drunk Again” for the first time, and it blew me away. It was performed by The Littlest Man Band, whose lead singer was Scott Klopfenstein of the band Reel Big Fish. I didn’t know it that night, but the song had actually been recorded BY Reel Big Fish a year earlier, with Scott on vocals. It instantly became one of my favorite songs of the decade. In fact, for awhile I would have told you it was my number one song, but now I think it has slipped a little bit.
When you think of Reel Big Fish, you think of ska music. They’re mostly known for their ska single “Sell Out” that came out back in the 90’s. But “Drunk Again” and the other music of The Littlest Man Band is completely different. The band released just one official album, called Better Book Ends in 2004. As far as I know, they are no longer active as a group, which is a shame. I saw them in concert a few more times after that first performance.
Regardless, here is one of my favorite songs from Scott Klopfenstein… “Drunk Again”
