Top 100 Songs Of The Decade: “Cherry Picker” – Candypants

Cherry Picker
by Candypants (2000)

Another CD that has stayed one of my favorites over the last 10 years is the one and only CD release by the L.A. band Candypants. Candypants is the creation of lead singer/flautist Lisa Jenio.  In addition to her work with Candypants, she’s played on many other CD’s over the years, including several of the songs featured in my top 100 of the decade (last week’s “Building A Ship” by Linus of Hollywood, to name one).

After the release of their self-titled CD, Candypants released a Christmas single, and contributed one new track to a compilation CD in 2006, but they still haven’t recorded a proper follow-up yet.  Their debut CD is still one of my top five albums of the decade (it was my #1 for many years).  It would be a shame if they never put out another disc.

In the meantime, check out “Cherry Picker” with its Beach Boys-esque orchestration (which is no coincidence, as some of the musicians on this CD are also Brian Wilson’s current backing band).
