What’s That Song? Seroquel XR commercial

The cold weather is upon us, and whenever winter rolls around (or at least for the past few years), I think about one of my favorite songs that always reminds me of this time of year – “I Love N.Y.E.” by Badly Drawn Boy.  This song is originally from the film soundtrack for 2002’s About A Boy.  It is an instrumental track that has been used not only in this movie, but also in an episode of Sex and the City and a Starbucks commercial from what memory serves.  And to my surprise the other night, it is now being used in a commercial for a drug called Seroquel XR, some sort of anti-depressant.  That’s sort of, well, depressing!

As an added bonus, since the commercial caught my attention when I heard “I Love N.Y.E.,” it also features an exterior shot of The Art Theatre in Long Beach, one of our favorite theaters to frequent.

If you have not heard “I Love N.Y.E.,” you can check it out here.

  1. Thank you! I’ve been looking for the name of the song to the Seroquel XR commercial! I KNEW I knew it!
    It’s such a nice song.

  2. You’re welcome! — I know how difficult it can be to find these things out, especially when you know you know it. 😉 Thanks for checking us out!

  3. Fitting that the song was originally written for a film that had a central character suffering from bi-polar disorder. Great song, film, and especially great book. Badly Drawn Boy “Fall in a River”…so good!

  4. Just for the record and not to nit-pick, Seroquel (and Seroquel XR) are not antidepressants. They are antipsychotics which is far scarier. They were originally created for adults diagnosed with schizophrenia but since it’s such a small market (around 1% of the population), they’ve sought to expand their customer base. The antipsychotic market has been seeking (and gaining) approvals for everything from irritability in autistic kids to bipolar and the newly created pediatric bipolar — you know, mood swings in toddlers. Pretty crazy stuff and pretty slick marketing. The way they are marketing them, it’s no wonder people think they’re antidepressants. Unfortunately they are far more dangerous.

  5. I’m so glad I’m not crazy. I heard the commercial and I knew I knew that song, but for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out how! Now I feel pretty stupid because I’ve been listening to that song everyday and never put two and two together.

  6. Just to add my two cents. Its not just marketing these drugs. The drug has to work for what it is indicated for! Seroquel xr is an antidepressant when used as adjunct therapy, you should do a little homework before you post on sites like these. Seroquel helps a lot of people to get control of thief depression.

  7. I dont think the songs are the same, I love NYE and the one on the seroquel ad. I purchased the this song from I tunes and there are not vocals or violins like the one in the ad. Does anyone know where I can get the song that is on the seroquel ad?
