Next year’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival, held yearly in Indio, California, won’t take place until April 16-18th, 2010, but that hasn’t started the rumors from flowing in. My wife and I attend the festival every year, and even though I found 2009’s lineup to be far from stellar (despite amazing performances by Friendly Fires, TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jenny Lewis), it’s the rumors of who is playing THIS year’s festival that have me really excited.
Today, the band Hot Chip posted the first list of dates for their upcoming U.S. tour, in support of their fourth album One Life Stand, out February 8th:
04-16 Oakland, CA – Fox Theater
04-19 Chicago, IL – Riviera Theatre
04-20 Toronto, Ontario – Koolhaus
04-22 New York, NY – Terminal 5
04-24 Washington, DC – 9:30 Club
Suspiciously absent from that list is a stop in Southern California. Therefore it’s a good bet that they will be playing the festival (along with The XX, the opening act for their tour) on either April 17th or 18th.
We saw Hot Chip two years ago at Coachella, and they were amazing. I can’t wait to see them again. With all the rumors going around (including a possible appearance by the newly reformed Faith No More, one of my favorite bands of all time), this year’s festival is already shaping up to be one of the best yet.
